“The world needs who you are meant to be.” My journey of burnout, transformation and growth.

I knew five years ago my successful, but draining, career as a men’s stylist at Nordstrom was not my calling. However, the journey to authenticity and a fulfilling career seemed daunting and nearly impossible.

Have any of you experienced that?

My journey of transformation started with studying micro habits/behavior change so that after 20 years outside of higher education I could keep up. Going back for my Master’s in Human Behavioral Psychology was rough, but that degree with an emphasis in Organizational Behavior was a good fit. Completing it also gave me confidence and credibility.

Soon after starting my Master’s program Alex Medina introduced me to Patrick Lencioni’s work and I LOVED it. Building healthy organizations resonated with me. This led to getting certified in Patrick Lencioni’s different training modalities including Working Genius, which was a true game changer.

I was working 6 days a week and trying to build my consulting business at the same time while going to school. Definitely not ideal, but necessary.

Career wise the biggest gift has been the Working Genius model. It has given me the roadmap to a better, more fulfilling career. It has also shown me how to build teams, help people work better together and show people how to value those different than themselves.

Personally, I have learned so much from this journey of beauty, pain, exploration and growth. Continuous improvement has been an essential element during the hard times. 1% better every day.

I wouldn’t change a thing, except maybe the grey hairs it has given me. In all seriousness, staying focused and disciplined on the most essential things has been the hardest part to implement. It is so easy to be distracted by all the shiny ideas in the world.

I am thankful for all the sage advisors and collaborators who have made this journey possible. We all need others on our journeys. Nobody should be on an island.

If you are on a team struggling to work cohesively together, are feeling burnt out or want to start 2025 off with a bang please reach out. The Working Genius is transformative and will shed some light for you.
